A holiday in Austria will be a wonderful experience for you at any time of year. The only difference is that you will take part in activities according to seasons. You can go hiking, mountain biking and lake swimming in summer. Winter is the best time to ski. A number of festivals go on throughout the year and there is a music festival lasting from May to October.

It is not in much news now, but at one time it was an important participant in economy, military and political scene and was also known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Now it is a smaller place and has developed as a perfect travel and holiday destination.

Officially the country is known as the Republic of Austria. It is a small country, roughly about 32,000 square miles in area. Vienna a very beautiful city is the capital of Austria. It has a population of 1.6 million people. The people living in Austria are called Austrians.

The heritage of Austria is exhibited in a very energetic way. Vienna’s pompous Habsburg palaces and Salzburg’s baroque Splendour are huge and when you go into the roots you will find Stone Age settlements, ruins of the Roman Empire combined with lively medieval festivals. There is no need to go searching for culture as it looks at your face.

Eisriesenwelt Hohle can be reached by a train which travels from Salzburg to Werfen. There are mini-buses which will take you to the caves, from here you can either walk down or take a cable car. Eisriesenwelt has very elaborate and beautiful ice formations; it’s the world’s largest accessible ice caves. It is good to take warm clothes as it gets cold in here.

Hohe Tauern National Park is another popular tourist destination. You can travel up to the site by car. It covers an area of about 1786 sq km and is one of the largest in Europe. Austria’s highest mountain Grossglockner lies in the heart of this protected sanctuary of flora and fauna. Even the road through the park can be said to be most beautiful in the world.

Krimml Falls is a stunning sight and well worth a visit on your vacation. You can take a bus from Zell am See to this triple-level. It attracts many visitors in summer. On the other hand the slopes above Krimml village become a place to ski. The falls’ combined height is 380m; it has 3 sections which are linked by a twisting river.

Kuenringerburg is a walk for about 15 minutes from Durnstein and you are there. It is very high up in the hill, and has a stunning view of the curve in Danube River, and the ruins of the castle of Kunringerburg.

Austria is a land of mystifying peaks, magical lakes and gushing rivers which makes it an amazing outdoor hunt. Here you can enjoy a number of activities at the same time. Like you want to climb mountains in Tyrol or ski on the slopes of the Alps or paddle in the furious Inn River, it’s all there. Austria is a beautiful country with a rich cultural heritage and is definitely worth a visit.

A holiday with the places above will be wonderful for holiday makers because here they can stay in ski chalets for rent as holiday accommodation. Furthermore, there are always availuable self catering holiday apartments in Austria for all travellers.

The travel planet may be going through a downward spiral, excluding European skiing in Austria. It embraces its own in the global market. The skiing crowd has evidently increased in Austria. Austria comes just subsequent to France in amass of fashionable European ski objectives. Austria is the number one target for pop idols and crowned heads, with its well-appointed choices and chocolate box scenery.

Austria is not just menacing, it is quite a spacious and wonderland you can be in for Skiing in this year 2008 and coming 2009. Just in the near past, it was alarmed about that the whole holiday industry was disaster-prone. Reports of global warming, together with poorly timed weather greater than one or two ski period s, intimidated to cut down the banging commerce of Austrian ski resorts. After a fade away, Austria reincarnated in the 2007 and 2008. The Ski seasons were superb and replenishing. The country was piled with snow and the tourists began to rush into the resorts. The records and surveys proved that Austria’s resort and holiday bookings tremendously amplified. The temperatures turned out to be moderate again for the best seasons, and they never tend to be too hot. Austria grew to be the tourist spot for the Royal Family, Prince Charles and his sons.

Year’s back, a voyage made by Lady Diana Spencer through Klosters paved way for the fame and splendor of Austria. On top to the British royal family, Austria’s ski resorts swarmed the sovereign of Sweden in the middle of numerous other celebrated countenances. Austria was outstanding in all means and swiftly won the heart of many. Yes, the region and the countryside are tremendously awe-inspiring. Skiing was introduced at a school initially and later it developed. It was Hannes Scheider who generated this up-to-date method. Skiing was never limited to any age groups and Austria became the floor for teaching Skiing.

Austria’s attractiveness as a ski objective has extra to do with the globally identified Austrian compassion. People appointed in the resorts know the tricks and ways to capture the heart of the guests. You will find the home like feeling here. The folks are ready to accompany the guests and endow any new or old information about the localities and skiing. They know better about the slopes and restaurants. Once you are in this land of ice beauty, you will get pleasure from skiing as well as the freshness and purity bequeathed here. Austrian ski resorts possibly will not split the similar widespread fame of some French resorts. However, benefactors wouldn’t have it in the least other way. In Austria, you will never experience a scuttle or pull to ski. By most of the resorts, the gradients are hushed and tranquil, by means of immediate quantity of natural snow.

Austria sings their own praises of beyond explainable natural gorgeousness and a caller catalog counting monarchs and screen idols. The Ski business is going to be far reaching ahead of all expectations in the 2008-2009 holiday periods.

Skiing has become such a big draw for visitors in Austria but skiing popularity dates back in the Austrian history too. It goes even further; an Austrian citizen cannot be regarded as a true Austrian if he has no love and ambition for Skiing. Among the many skiing regions dotted on Austria map, the Arlberg region with St. Anton or Upper Austria with Radstadt provide with some of the best skiing resorts in Austria. Austria travel can turn out to be a complete fairytale with snow all around but the time of visiting can make all the difference. The ski season starts from early December lasting up to late March. Mid- January is the best time for skiing, which is also the coldest time of the year. The peak season is from December 25th to 2nd January but not the best times for professional advanced skiers as it gets quite crowded and congested.

Austria travel endows the visitors with a magical experience, with the snow-capped mountains, its slopes, the Apres-Ski and the Austrian “Gemuetlichkeit”. Of the Austrian tourist industry, the winter sports tourism is now a billion euro industry, with many of the cities becoming flourishing tourist spots. Skiing of the many winter sports is the most popular and Austria has a very high number of ski resorts catering to the needs of the tourists. One will come across a number of small medium sized ski resorts, though not as impressive as in France and Switzerland. Still the Austrian resorts are very popular because they are more affordable, but very comfortable, cozy, and importantly less prone to mass tourism. There are many well known different skiing resorts attract tourists from almost everywhere.

The Austrian villages have modified themselves into skiing resorts thus no need arose to create new artificial skiing resorts. Today the tourists get to enjoy skiing in the local atmosphere of the villages along with the modern high tech lifts and tracks, putting up with the growing tourist rush. The standard of skiing facilities in the country is very high, very well organized, and well catered with all kinds of transportation available. Even the valleys are connected to one another and do not be surprised if you start in one valley and end up at another. With so many tracks and lifts on offer, most of the times, one feels short of days to see everything. Austria even plays host to number of big international skiing and snowboarding competitions. Moreover, the skiing holidays now are no longer limited to just skiing. Today, more and more skiing resorts provide with exciting nightlife options, parties and other fun activities too. It is not only the beautiful ski resorts but also reputed ski-schools and instructors of the country are well known. There are excellent ski instructors and the best part the lessons are in English. Austria is perfect for not only the professional skiers but for the beginners as the ski runs are created for all levels of difficulty.

A land-locked country, Austria is located in Central Europe. It is a mountainous country with an area of 83,855 km2. Austria consists of nine provinces: Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia, Styria, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Burgenland, and Vienna. Approximately 99% of Austrians are of Germanic ethnic origin and 78% are Roman Catholics. As for the terrain, the Alps occupy the southern and western regions of the country, and numerous forests, valleys, lakes, and rivers can be found throughout Austria. When you travel to Austria, it’s important to have an idea about the weather and Austria’s seasons. Austria has four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Summers are generally warm and pleasant with cool nights. Rain does occur during the summer season but the showers are normally short. Austria’s winters are sunny, with reliable and frequent snowfalls. Winters are also cold and accompanied by warm and dry winds in some parts. However the weather overall is changeable throughout the year, so when you travel to Austria, pack appropriately. When you travel to Austria, you’ll quickly realize why Austria is widely recognized for its rich cultural past and present. Austria’s affluence of artistic achievements is obvious in its architecture and structures like the Stephansdom (Saint Stephen`s Cathedral), Schönbrunn Palace, Hofburg Palace, the “Goldene Dachl” in Innsbruck, Melk Abbey, and the “Loos-Haus” or the “Hundertwasser-Haus”. Austria is also the birthplace of composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss Jr., Johann Strauss Sr., and Johannes Brahms. Like most European countries, Austria has a rich culture and affluence that awaits anyone who decides to visit.

If you pre-plan your activities for your trip to Austria, here’s a heads up. Because of Austria’s mountainous terrain, two of the more popular activities for tourists tend to be skiing in the winter and hiking. There are a number of different resorts to fulfill your skiing desires. If you prefer flat terrain to hills, cross-country skiing opportunities are also available anywhere where there’s sufficient snow and few buildings. As for hiking, there are thousands of kilometers of hiking trails that will allow you to explore the Alps and its breathtaking views. If you’re looking for things to do when you travel Austria, skiing in the winter and hiking are two very popular and exciting Austrian activities for tourists.

Austria casinos are owned and operated by Casinos Austria, which was founded in 1967 and based in the Palais Ephrussi in Vienna. In addition to 12 casinos in Austria, Casinos Austria also operates casino facilities in other countries, including several European countries, but also Canada, Argentina, Egypt, and South Africa, and even a casino in the Palestinian territories, though this is currently closed due to the security situation. Casinos Austria also offers online gaming facilities, which are becoming increasingly popular due to their ease of use and convenience.

Austria casinos, like casinos in most other European countries, usually have a dress code for players at the gaming tables. Admission is free, and most casinos offer a “bonus ticket,” which gives guests a small number of additional chips to play with when they purchase a certain amount of credit. As with many other countries, a photographic ID is required for registration purposes, though this can be done on the spot, and guests must be over 18. Several Austria casinos are situated in hotels, and special packages are available for visitors. Austria casinos are open every day except Christmas Eve, apart from the seasonal casino at Bad Gastein, which only opens during the winter months to cater to the foreign tourist trade. Many casinos have “teaching tables,” where novices can learn the various games without risking their shirt on the spin of the wheel! All the usual games are available, including American and French Roulette, blackjack, poker, and baccarat, and of course, the usual range of slot machines.

Austria’s Innsbruck is one of the best known European ski resorts, with absolutely first class facilities for both experienced and novice skiiers alike. The reason airlines have chosen to increase the number of direct routes they provide to ski resorts for the 2008-9 winter holiday period is due to the fact business is booming. As of the end of October, one alone had over 2.5 million bookings for individuals and families wanting their flying services to travel to skiing destinations in Europe during this winter just gone. Increasing the number of direct routes of these low costs airlines allows even more individuals to book flights for their holiday plans. Innsbruck is set to gain as much as any ski area as just started are low cost flights six days a week from London’s Gatwick Airport to Innsbruck. This weekly schedule will accommodate Britons who want inexpensive travel to a locale that lives and breathes skiing. Innsbruck is located in the federal state of Tyrol. Located in the Inn Valley between high mountains, it is ideally suited to winter activities and skiing in particular. The name Innsbruck means “the bridge over the Inn”. And with its new facility Innsbruck has the best of both the old and modern for anyone thinking of skiing holidays for next winter.

Salzburg, Austria is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Mozart. The city is home to numerous music and drama festivals throughout the year. The movie The Sound of Music was filmed in this city and is a popular tourist attraction. The alpine setting of this city gives it a unique charm. There are many sites to see and lots to do here. Vacation packages are available online or through a travel agent. These can save money, compared to booking your flight and accommodations separately. Do some research before visiting a travel agent or booking online into some of the hotels available in the city. Decide if you want to be in the inner city or farther out.

Salzburg’s Old City is the center of the city and the most historic area. It is considered one of the most aesthetically beautiful cities in Europe. The area has many old footbridges to walk and pedestrian only areas for sightseeing. Horse and buggy tours of the area are also available. If you need a break from the city, consider walking the many paths outside the city to relax and enjoy the quiet and beauty of nature. Salzburg is home to many old churches, most in the Baroque style. The cathedral in the center of town dates back to the 17th century. The architecture of these old churches gives the city its unique character. Some to see include: St. Sebastian’s, St. Michaels, St. Johns and St. Peter’s Abbey. Hohensalzburg Fortress is another popular tourist attraction in the city. The fortress was first constructed in the year 1077 and expansions were done in 1160 and again in the 15th and 16th centuries during the Hungarian War. This is the largest fortress in all of central Europe. It was very effective and was never conquered by enemy armies. The fortress is open year round for tours.
