Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Skiing is an adventure that can be done with the right equipment in the snow. First invented in the early 19th century by a man by the name of Sondre Norheim, it has become an international sport. Its popularity throughout the years has evolved into other events such as snowboarding and the slalom jump, which can be seen in various competitions. If ever you get the chance to go to Europe, it would be a good idea to spend a holiday in the country known as Austria. The place is surrounded by the Alps and is considered to be one of the best known ski resorts in the world.

Skiing is considered to be a favorite past time of Austrians just like baseball is in the United States. This is the reason that its athletes are always in the top three that finishes in events such as the World Championships and the Winter Olympics. If ever you get a chance to visit Austria, aside from skiing, one event that must not be missed is the annual reindeer sled race. It may not be something like the Tour de France but this always draws huge crowds as participants compete against each other to finish the race. Some people think it is very hard to learn how to ski. The task may be difficult but not impossible given that there are professionals who are there to help and all you have to do is keep an open mind and learn. Once the students gets the hang of it, this can be done in any other country that has a ski resort. The day can end in front of a fireplace with coffee or hot chocolate to rest for another day of skiing in the mountains.
